Seven Soloman King

Seven King was never an ordinary boy. While he loved video games and legos, he wasn’t into social media and had anxiety with interactions with people he didn’t really know well. So he never sought out group activities and preferred activities he could do alone. He had an engineer’s mind and was able to put together and build huge and complex Lego sets in a matter of hours - something that grown men often would take weeks or days to do.

He pondered complex life questions pretty much as soon as he could talk. At 5 years old, he once asked me what is the purpose of life? At 11 years old, he asked why is it that we are so blessed when others may work just as hard as I do and don't have as much? This was his inherent nature. Always trying to make sense of the world around him in very profound ways.

He valued his loved ones and was always very selective about who he called a "friend". He did not use that word lightly. He only named a few people in his life friends and he kept those people very close and protected in his heart. Those that he chose in this way were his entire world and he loved them absolutely without condition.

Seven was considered by everyone around him as a gentle giant throughout his entire childhood. He was a defender of anyone that couldn't defend themselves and always stood up for the little guys. He was extremely sensitive with an amazingly kind heart that loved completely, while being extremely hard on himself always. He had the heart of a superhero. Seven was brilliant and full of creative thoughts and ideas. He was also an extremely independent, critical thinker that was not easily influenced by the opinions of others. As his mother, I have always been proud of this character trait and always very proud of how loving and compassionate he was for others.

With such a sensitive nature, Seven has always faced huge emotional and mental health challenges. Seven, with the help and love of family, friends, teachers, coaches, tutors, and counseling, was in a lifelong battle to overcome his struggles with mental health issues. In the last 2 years, things have become extremely difficult and it was difficult to get the mental health support that he needed.

On November 7, 2022, Seven lost the internal fight and struggle for survival. He was very loved by everyone that knew him and is still loved. Seven will be desperately missed and words cannot convey the heartache and void left on the world with his departure.

The pain of this loss is unbearable. I fought to understand him, to talk to him, to get the help he needed and it still wasn't enough. My life is forever changed by losing my son and this is a pain that no one should ever have to endure. The problems that I encountered in the mental health medical world had been a huge obstacle to trying to get Seven the help he needed. I was crying out for help as a parent as well because I was feeling lost. I hope that the mental health medical system can be improved and research can be done to prevent such situations as much as possible.

This is why I am asking for donations to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) in honor of my son, Seven King, the sensitive gentle giant with the biggest heart I've ever known.
