Sharon Willis, born September 24, 1949, in Greensboro, North Carolina, passed away leaving behind a legacy of dedication, mentorship, and extraordinary passion for the world of dog training and competition.
On July 22, 1983, she married Joseph Willis, Sr., beginning a lifelong partnership filled with love, shared memories, and unwavering support.
Sharon turned her love for dogs into a true calling. What began as a hobby grew into a lifelong passion for training Australian Shepherds, earning multiple awards and recognition over the years with several remarkable dogs. Obedience competitions were her favorite activity, and she approached them with both fierce determination and joyful sportsmanship. Sharon loved to win—but just as much, she loved celebrating the successes of others.
Her journey began many years ago with beloved dogs Brinks, Bullet, and Target, and she quickly became part of the core group of Australian Shepherd obedience competitors in the Southeast. In later years, she trained and competed with extraordinary dogs, including the unforgettable Kenji. Over time, her reputation as an exceptional trainer and generous mentor spread far and wide. Sharon shared her knowledge freely, helping countless people grow in confidence and skill alongside their dogs.
She will be remembered not only for her achievements, but for her warmth and kindness—especially her familiar and cheerful greeting, “Well, hi Missy,” which so many came to love. Sharon was truly a legend in the dog world, and her influence will live on through the many lives she touched.
Sharon, thank you for all you gave us. You will be deeply missed.
