Warren John Was, 78, of Snellville, GA, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 15, 2026, after a 2 ½ year battle with cancer. He was born on July 14, 1947, in New York City, NY, to Sigmund John and Adel Was.
Warren lived a life grounded in faith and love, always with a touch of humor. He trusted in Jesus Christ as his Savior and sought to serve others in everything he did. All who met him heard about his loving Father in heaven. A faithful servant to the end, when Warren received his cancer diagnosis, he replied, “Either way I win.” He knew he would either experience God’s miracle or go home to be with the Lord.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 56 years, Ruth Was; his children, Chris Was, Cheri Highers (Brian), and Lari Was; his sister, Suzi Kallam; and his grandchildren, Jada, Ashlyn, Brendan, and Lily. His family rejoices in the assurance that he is now in the presence of the Lord—free from pain and filled with everlasting joy.
Warren earned an art and design degree from the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Arts and later received a degree in ministry from Northeastern Bible College. Over the years, he faithfully served the Lord as a minister in several churches and through international ministry.
“Yet I am always with you; you hold me by my right hand. You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me into glory. Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” —Psalm 73:23–26
A celebration of Warren’s life will be held on March 28, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Snellville, GA. A reception will follow the service.
