Born on March 26, 1939, to Joseph and Thelma Haynes in Atlanta, Georgia. He came from a large family of 10 children. He graduated from Murphy High School before meeting the love of his life, Saralyn, and then was drafted and stationed in New Jersey, where Saralyn followed, and they were married and started a large family of six children. After his honorable discharge from the army, they moved to Stone Mountain, Georgia. He was a dedicated, extremely hard-working husband and father, who never wavered from providing for his family. He spent most of his career working with and on printing presses of one kind or another.
He was funny, witty, could solve most any puzzle you gave him, great with fixing things with his hands and his mind. If he liked you, you could count on getting picked on. He was a great storyteller and lived a life that produced plenty of them to tell.
His wife, Saralyn, passed away way too young and left him a widower a few years before his retirement.
Shortly after his retirement and a few years of living alone, he moved in with his youngest daughter and her husband and stayed with them for the next 24 years, most of which were in Waleska, Georgia, where his already large family expanded to grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He passed away early Sunday morning, October 11, 2026, in the hospital after losing a battle to infection related to his long-term diabetes.
