Winston Alexander Brown

Danny was born in Kingston, Jamaica on December 4th, 1954. Danny and his two older siblings, Cassanova and Lorna, were raised by his parents Ronald and Mavis Brown. As a child Danny took pride in watching his father build a house on his own for all five members of the family to reside in. Danny often shared about the exceptionally big bathtub that his father built. Danny always referred to it as a “swimming pool.” A primary quality of Danny is sharing with his friends everything good that he had discovered, as such, Danny would invite his friends over to his childhood home for them to wade in the, so called, “swimming pool.” That quality of sharing with his friends remained with Danny throughout his life.

As a teenager, Danny attended Camperdown High School. While there, his speed in running track led to him travelling internationally representing Jamaica in Track and Field events and earning multiple gold medals. His accomplishments were also featured in a book.

After immigrating to the United States as an older teenager. Life was hard! He worked various jobs while attending Oklahoma State College where he studied culinary arts. In 1994, he accomplished his dream of opening his own restaurant in Atlanta Georgia specializing in authentic Jamaican cuisine. He named his restaurant “New Kingston Café.” Danny expressed such joy at the opening of his restaurant, New Kingston Café, and it being recognition in the local newspaper for its fine Jamaican cuisine. In early 2000, due to illness and against his will, Danny had to close New Kingston Café. Nevertheless, Danny’s internal drive of expressing himself through the art of preparing unique flavors to tantalize one’s palate led to the continued perfecting of his craft from his home kitchen, where he could be observed carefully crafting unique flavors, seemingly putting his heart and soul in each item he prepared for his friends and loved ones to enjoy. Towards the end of his life, he would frequently discuss with friends and those interested in the art of cooking, his recipes including how to achieve certain flavors.

Danny had a sharp wit and wonderful sense of humor that kept those around him smiling. He loved watching track and field on television, especially when Jamaica was competing. Depending on how the Jamaican runners performed, he was both their greatest fan and worse critic; he often called his friends, (as well as his friends calling him) to share his excitement about the game, analyzing how the runners performed, and what they could have done differently. In the home, he could be heard being loud, intense, and exuberating while track and field were on.

Danny was married three times, first to Wanda, then to Thelma, and finally, in December 1993, to Faith. He always spoke of each wife with care., graciously highlighting their strengths while taking responsibility for his own shortcomings in his marriages. Danny was the proud father of two daughters, Delia from his first marriage and Safiya from his second marriage. He shared a particular close bond with Safiya. Taking immense joy in her accomplishments and adventures as she grew into an independent, beautiful young woman.

Danny was preceded in death by his parents, Mavis and Ronald Brown, His sister, Lorna Streete, and his nephew Howard Streete.

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife Faith Wright-Brown, his daughter Safiya Brown, His brother Cassanova Brown, his nieces Stacey-Ann Brown and Karen Brown, his nephew Tony Streete His brother-in-law Colin Wright. His sisters-in-law Angela Brown, Sharon Wright, and Caroline Wright, niece in law Angela Streete, his grandnephews Matthew and Michael, his grandniece Abigail, and a host of dearly beloved family and friends.

Memory of Danny will never be forgotten. He lives on in all the hearts he has impacted.
