Born on March 2, 1928, in Mór, Hungary, Agnes was the daughter of the late Antel and Barbara (Gessler) Frey. In 1957, she immigrated to the United States in search of a better life and made her home in Connecticut, where she devoted herself to her work and her community. Agnes retired from New Britain General Hospital after 30 years of dedicated service.
She found joy in simple pleasures—frequenting the Southington YMCA and Calendar House, where she formed lasting friendships and brightened the days of those around her. Known for her quiet strength, resilience, and unwavering kindness, Agnes touched the lives of many.
She is survived by her son, Andrew G. “Andy” Katona of Southington, and by many dear friends who cherished her gentle spirit—especially Donna, Norma, Maryann, and Ann Marie. Agnes was predeceased by her sister, Gizi Yellonski, and her brother, Marczi Frey.
A memorial Mass celebrating Agnes’s life will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at 11 am at St. Dominic Church, 1050 Flanders Rd., Southington. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, Southington. There are no calling hours.
