

He was born Nov. 18,1920 the son of Angelo and Louise (Mastroianni) Coppola. He graduated Lewis High School in 1939 and Laurel Business College in 1941. Upon graduation he headed to Washington D. C. and joined the State Department as a junior clerk. His Civil Service career was interrupted when war
broke out.
As part of the "Great Generation" Alfred enlisted into the U. S. Navy and served in the Pacific Theater. After he was discharged he returned to the State Department and was assigned to the newly established Agency for international Development (USAID) branch.
For the next thirty years, from Taiwan, China to Bangkok Thailand to Seoul Korea to Saigon, Vietnam, Alfred called the Far East home. Alfred enjoyed playing bridge at the Elks Club in Waikiki and Mahjong with his many friends especially Rooney and Lily Chen.
Alfred was predeceased by his sisters Lucia Coppola and Evelyn Cano, his two brothers Albert and Joseph.
Alfred leaves his two loving sisters Mary Zimbardi of East Haven, and Edith Pelosi and husband Libby of Guilford along with several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Thomas Church, 99 Bristol St. Southington on July 24, 2015 at 11 am. Burial with military honors will be at St. Thomas Cemetery. There are no calling hours
