Angela Zacchia

Angela was born in July 18, 1947 in Pontelatone, Italy, the daughter of the late Giovanni and Lucia (Sabina) Mercaldi. She was a longtime resident of Southington and retired from General Electric after 36 years of dedicated service.

Angela was a member of the Italian Rosary Society and the Sorelle d’Italia in America Club. She had a love for gardening and especially enjoyed growing and canning her own tomatoes. Her Italian heritage, family traditions, and love for those around her were an important part of her life.

She leaves behind her loving daughter, Maria Gagnon, and her husband Robert of Southington; three cherished granddaughters who were Angela’s greatest treasures, Ava, Emma, and Marisa. They will miss her daily presence in their lives but she gave them beautiful memories for them to cherish. She is also survived by her sister Cristina and two sister in laws, Assunta and Rosa Mercaldi, as well as nieces and nephews, Franco and Enza Mercaldi of Canada and Lucia (Pietro) and Gianvito (Domenica) Mercaldi in Italy and Frank (Marilyn) Izzo, Josie (John) Morrison, Vincenzo (Virginia) Zacchia, Mario (Teresa) Izzo,Vincenzo (Kim) Zacchia, Angelo(Maria) Zacchia. She was predeceased by her twin brother Saverio, brother Gaetano Mercaldi and nephew John Mercaldi. She was also predeceased by her in-laws Rosa and Giuseppe Izzo, Tommasso and Maria Zacchia and Giuseppe and wife Francesca Zacchia. Angela will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew and loved her.

Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at 8:15 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington, to St. Dominic Church, 1050 Flanders Rd., Southington, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Guarino. Calling hours will be held on Monday, September 7, 2026, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
