

Anna Louise “Nancy” (Shilosky) Madden passed away peacefully on Saturday at the Summit of Plantsville after a very long struggle with dementia. She was 94 years old. Anna resided at the Summit for the past 7 years. Prior to that she lived at 59 Deer Run in Plantsville with her loving husband Edward “Ed” Madden since 1967 who passed away in 2019.
Anna was born in Canton to Edria (Young) Shilosky and Stephen Shilosky. She was predeceased by her older sister Elizabeth “Betty” (Shilosky) Venberg of Pennsylvania. Anna graduated from New Britain High School in 1949 and was married to Ed in 1951. They resided in New Britain until they moved to Plantsville in 1967. Anna was an active parishioner at St. Aloysius Church where she was very involved with the Ladies Guild and was known for the beautiful afghans that she crocheted every year to donate to the church’s Christmas bazaar.
She worked at JFK Middle School from 1975 to 1985 in the cafeteria cooking and serving food to the students and staff.
Anna is survived by 4 children, Allen Madden (Cathy), Daniel Madden (Lori), Timothy Madden (Regina) and Mary Madden Rinaldi (Steve). She was “Grandma” to 7 grandchildren; Joshua Madden, Gina Madden, Sara Madden-Schick, Michael Madden, Amelia Rinaldi, Jillian Rinaldi and Gabriella Rinaldi. She also leaves 6 great grandchildren; Justin, Kristina, Olivia, Robert, William, and Betty.
Anna will be missed by her family and the staff at the Summit for her beautiful smile, sharp wit and loving nature. She was known at the Summit as the “Cat lady” where her bed was always covered with stuffed cats, there to remind her of the many cats that she and her husband adopted and loved over the years. Anna will also be missed for her cooking. She hosted countless holidays for her family and was best known for her Thanksgiving stuffing, apple pie, hamburger soup and her extra cheesy Mac-n-cheese!
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, August 29, 2025 at St. Aloysius Church, 254 Burritt St. Plantsville at 11:00 am followed by burial at St. Thomas Cemetery. All are asked to meet directly at Church. There will be no public calling hours.
