Anthony William Longo

Anthony William Longo, 104, of Southington, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on July 2, 2026, at the HOCC of New Britain, CT surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of the late Elizabeth Keating Longo.

Born on May 15, 1922, in Southington, Anthony was the son of the late John and Mary (Cassella) Longo. Known to family and friends as “Tony” he proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. Following his military service, he worked as a Tool and Die Machinist at Ideal Forge, Tubular Products in New Britain, and at VR Wesson Fansteel, from where he retired. He also worked as a Painter and did interior design work for many people.

After retiring in 1986, Tony moved to Port Charlotte, FL where he and his wife lived for 15 years. They returned to CT and resided with their daughter.

Tony was a member of the American Legion Post 72, Son’s of Italy, and the Calendar House. Tony is a well-known and respected Billiard player throughout Southington and the surrounding communities. He could often be found at Son’s of Italy, Friend’s Café, and the Southington Calendar House attending tournaments. He is well known for his 5-ball combination. Truly one for the record books. All will miss him saying “Bingo” when he won a match.

Tony was “one of a kind”. Truly dedicated and hardworking his whole life; describes him best.

Other hobbies that Tony enjoyed were his family vacations to Cape Cod, Florida, and visiting Italy was one of his greatest joys.

He also enjoyed building his birdhouses. He took so much pride and perfection in creating these shelters for birds. His birdhouses are one of a kind. Often with interior wallpaper and viewing windows that he fondly named their “picture windows”. His birdhouses span the USA, parts of Europe, and Canada as well. Tony couldn’t wait for the Holiday bazaars and for the Meriden Daffodil festival where many came by to get their pictures taken, and to have their houses autographed by Tony. He had proudly been named the “Birdman” by his friends and customers.

Above all, Tony’s passion was spending time with his family and socializing with friends. He so enjoyed his Tuesday trips to McDonald’s with his friends, Mike DePrey and Rick Tanguay; how he waited for this treat.

Tony’s kindness, generosity, sense of humor, and devotion to those he loved will be remembered by everyone who knew him. The small things in life were some of Tony’s greatest treasures. Tony lived a long, fulfilled life filled with so many memories. He has lived through so many advances and historical changes during his lifetime. From horses and buggies to trollies and automobiles. Radio to T.V. and then the internet. Such a wide range of history was witnessed in one lifetime.

He is survived by his loving daughter, Nancy Longo, of Southington; his son William Longo and his fiancé, Karen, of Bristol; his grandson Anthony Longo of Milford, along with several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his beloved wife, Elizabeth, Tony was predeceased by his sisters, Rose DiCaprio, Bertha DiCaprio, and his brother John Longo, along with many nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be held on Wednesday, July 8th at 10:15 AM from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. Southington to St. Dominic Church, 1050 Flanders Rd., Southington for a Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow with military honors in St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4:00 - 7:00 PM.
