
Southington - Ariel (Ed) Platt, passed away May 25, 2011. He is survived by his wife Maureen (Wetmore) of 47 years and sons Forest wife Caro, grandchildren Christopher and Kimberly, Jonathan wife Allison, grandchildren Hannah and Noah, and Ethan wife Jennifer and grandchild Sarah. He leaves brothers Ted wife Carol, Robert, Gregory and sister Margaret Platt.
General Platt lived 34 years in Durham before moving to Southington in 2004.
General Platt served his country and community for 37 years with full time assignments with in the Army and Army National Guard. His assignments included locations both in Connecticut and at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. General Platt was a ?brown booter? entering as a private and reaching Brigadier General upon retirement.
Upon retirement he was active in organizations including; Chairman of the Trustees of Durham?s Fire department, Durham?s Planning & Zoning Board of Appeals, was Chairman of Durham?s Memorial day parade and the Republican town committee.
General Platt was a member and past commander of post 184 American Legion and led the renovation of Durham?s Veterans Memorial and the placing of flag poles in Durham?s three cemeteries. He was past commander of the Nathan Hale Chapter of Military Officers Association of America as well as an active member of the Association of the U.S. Army, the 102nd Infantry Association, the National Guard Association of the U.S. and a member of the NRA, Bell City Rifle Club and the Lewis Farms ?Country Club?.
The family will be forever grateful to Doctor Jeremy Kortmansky and the staff of Verdi, Four- West at Saint Raphael?s? Hospital for their compassionate care.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at 9:15 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington to Mary Our Queen Church, 248 Savage St., Plantsville for a mass at 10 a.m. Burial with full military honors to follow at South End Cemetery, Southington. Calling hours will be Monday from 4 to 8 p.m.
