

Born on December 19, 1938, in New Haven, CT. She was the daughter of the late Everitt Greenspun. Carol was raised in West Haven by her late grandmother, Annie Barmore Greenspun, who played a central role in her upbringing. She was a graduate of West Haven High School.
Carol's life was defined by her devotion to her family. She was the loving wife of James Mathews Jr. and together they built a life filled with love and support. As a homemaker, she made sure her family was cared for and loved unconditionally. Her home was a haven, a place of warmth, comfort, and togetherness.
In her free time, Carol enjoyed an active lifestyle. She loved bicycling, running road races, kayaking, camping, and spending time with family. Her commitment to staying active was an inspiration to all who knew her.
Carol is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, James; her sons, Paul (Susan), Joe (Tara), Kenny (Kathy), Jamie (Courtney), and Daniel; as well as her 11 grandchildren, 2 grandsons-in-law and 1 great granddaughter, who brought her immeasurable joy. She was predeceased by her brothers, Kenneth Greenspun and Roger Wohlrabe.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at 9:00 AM at St. Dominic Church, 1050 Flanders Rd., Southington, CT. Burial will follow at St. Thomas Cemetery. All are asked to gather directly at the church; there will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Carol's name to the charity of one's choice.
