

Dominic R. Mendola, 85, of Southington, beloved husband of Josephine (Augustine) Mendola, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 surrounded by his family at the Hospital of Central Connecticut. Dominic was born in Melilli, Sicily on November 18, 1938 and was the son of the late Vincenzo and Lucia (Aresco) Mendola. He emigrated to the United States and proudly became an American citizen. Dominic was employed by Assa Abloy of Berlin as a machinist, retiring in 2000 after 30 years. Dominic and Josie met at a dance at Lake Compounce and were inseparable for over 60 years. Dominic was a very talented singer. As a member of several bands, Dominic sang throughout New England. “Come Prima” was the first song that Dominic sang for Josie, and the last song they shared together. Dominic was an avid soccer and professional wrestling fan and enjoyed watching westerns. Dominic was a gifted cook who enjoyed preparing meals for family and friends. Besides his wife, Dominic is survived by his two daughters, Lucy Carragher and her husband John of Southington and Mary Pelletier and her husband Jay of Newington. He was also “Papa” to John P. Carragher and Matthew Carragher of Southington and Justin Pelletier and Jared Pelletier of Newington. Dominic was predeceased by his infant brother Salvatore and is survived by his two sisters, Mary Sbona of Vernon and Sally Cavallaro of Palm Coast, Florida as well as many nieces and nephews.
