

Donald Egidio, 90, beloved husband of the late Sheila (Smithwick) Egidio, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2026. He was born on July 13, 1935, in New Britain, Connecticut, to the late Dominic and Mary Egidio.
Donald grew up in Southington and graduated from Southington high school. After high school, he proudly served his country for the United States Army in Korea. Donald was honorably discharged on August 6, 1956, and returned to Southington where he began his career as a carpenter.
He married Sheila Smithwick on June 17, 1961, and had 2 children, Donna and Aaron. They moved to Guilford, CT in the early 1970’s, where Donald started his own carpentry business and later worked for the Sisters of Mercy at The Mercy Center in Madison, CT. Donald and Sheila made a beautiful life together for over 35 years until Sheila’s sudden passing on March 27, 1997. Donald reconnected with Beverly Fiondella, a lifelong resident of Southington, several years later. He returned to Southington where they spent many wonderful years together, including living in Venice, FL for a few months a year and Narragansett, RI during the summers. She was with him when he passed peacefully at their home in Southington.
Donald embraced life with enthusiasm and joy. He loved music, especially the big bands and dancing, being fondly called “Jiggy” by those who knew him. He was very creative and loved spending time wood working, carving, gardening, making puzzles, drawing, and writing special notes to family and friends.
Donald was a man of deep faith. He was a devoted communicant of St. Dominic’s Church in Southington and St. George’s Church in Guilford.
Donald will be lovingly remembered by his son, Dr. Aaron Egidio and his wife Danielle; his grandchildren, Alexis (Egidio) Sasso and her husband Stephen; Jacqueline Egidio; Kyle Egidio; and Bret Fee; and his son-in-law Timothy Fee. Donald was predeceased by his daughter, Donna Mary Fee and his brother, Richard Egidio. In addition to his family, he leaves his extended family: Andrew Fiondella; Delina Coviello, her husband Joe and their children Gianna and Joseph; Andrew Fiondella III, his wife Rachel and their children Vincenzo and Angelo; Paul Zarella,
his wife Deana and his daughter Nicole Gateman, her husband Joe and their son Jameson; Christina DellaVecchia, Anthony DellaVecchia and his son Landyn.
Donald will be remembered for his warmth, his lively spirit, and the joy he brought to those around him. His legacy of kindness, faith, and his kind heart will live on in all who knew him.
A period of visitation will be held on Monday May 4, 2026, from 5:00 PM – 7 P.M. at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home 211 N. Main St. Southington. A Mass of Christian mass will be held on May 5, 2026, at 11:00 AM at St. Dominic’s Church, 1050 Flanders Rd., Southington. Burial with military honors will follow at Alder Brook Cemetery in Guilford, CT. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Donald’s name to the American Cancer Society.
