

Doris (Nelson) Borrelli, 91 of Southington passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 17, 2026 at the Hospital of Central Connecticut surrounded by her family. She was the loving wife of Vincent Borrelli (deceased) for over 55 years. She was also a devoted Mother, Grammy and Great Grandmother.
Born October 12, 1934 in Brooklyn, NY, daughter of the late Oscar and Mathilda (Johannesen) Nelson. She worked at Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in NY and Lori Engineering in Southington.
She was well known, as a young mother in Southington, for walking the three miles from home to Grand Union and back with her grocery wagon.
Doris enjoyed Bingo at the calendar house, meals and the staff at Friendly’s on Queen St., traveling with Vinny, scratch lottery tickets, playing her numbers every week, playing the slots at the casino and was an avid Card player. She loved animals but especially birds and in her younger years everyone in the neighborhood would bring her any baby birds they found to care for. She had outstanding artistic ability.
Her grandchildren and great grandchildren said they could always count on receiving Grammy $ when they saw her, she could never pass up a dessert or sweet and “Grammy salad” consisting of iceberg lettuce and olives in a Tupperware container.
Mom always had a special light about her and shared her boundless happiness with everyone.
Doris leaves her children Joseph Borrelli and wife Laura of Forestville, Sue and husband Bob King of Eliot, ME and Lori and husband Pete Cammuso of Southington, along with eight grandchildren Nicole & husband Mike, Jackie & husband Doug, Dominic & wife Rachel, Sarah & husband Greg and Jake, Anthony, Danielle and Desiree and six great grandchildren Margaret, John, Juliette, Michael, Therese and Sophia.
The family wishes to thank Gina her caregiver from HomeAides for her loving care of Doris for the last year and in her final days.
A period of visitation will be held on Saturday, March 28th., 2026 from 9:00a.m.-10:15a.m. followed by a prayer service at 10:30a.m. at DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main Street, Southington.
