
WOLCOTT-E. Frank Hathaway III, 85, died on Sunday, May 6, 2012. He was the husband of the late Anne (Falconer) Hathaway who predeceased him on May 1, at St. Mary's Hospital. Frank Hathaway, born in Hartford on August 26, 1926, was the son of the late Eben Frank Hathaway, Jr, and Beatrice (Eldridge) Hathaway Robertson. He served in the U. S. Marine Corps during World War II, and was wounded during the Iwo Jima assault. As a result, he received a Purple Heart.
Frank began his lifelong career in the insurance industry with the Unites States Fidelity and Guaranty Co. In 1959, he moved with his family to Wolcott. Frank left the corporate side of the business to form a partnership with David Ross in the Benjamin Ross Insurance Agency which eventually grew to become the Insurance Center of Waterbury. The two remained partners in business until they each retired. Almost immediately after the move, Frank became active in the Greater Waterbury community. For almost sixty years he served the community in various capacities, including as Wolcott Democratic Town Committee Chairman and as a town selectman. He was instrumental in starting Wolcott Midget Football, and he played a major role in establishing a football program at Wolcott High School.
He is survived by his daughter Margaret, and her husband Stephen, of Lafayette, CA, and their two daughters, Gillian and Stephanie Raymond, also from Lafayette. He is also survived by his son James F. Hathaway, Jr., and his wife, Jessica, and their two young daughters, Jordan and Jade Hathaway.
He leaves behind four brothers Leonard, Kenneth, Donald and Charles Hathaway and a sister Jane Gookin, all of MA, as well as several generations of nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also leaves a special family friend,Gregory Holmes of Medford, NY. He was predeceased by a son James F. Hathaway Sr., a brother Robert Hathaway, and two sisters Beverly Brayall and Florice Clarke.
A Funeral Mass for Frank and Anne Hathaway will be held on Friday, May 11, 2012, at St. Pius X Church, 525 Woodtick Rd. in Wolcott. Everyone is asked to
