

He was born September 29, 1927 in Nanticoke, PA, son of the late James and Antoinette (Balebajda) Sweeney. He moved his family to Southington in the early 1950?s and has been a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church and a baseball coach in Southington South Little League. Both Edward and his wife Mary served in the US Army during WWII and have also been members of the American Legion in Southington.
Mr. Sweeney was an employee of Pratt & Whitney, P.J. Delahunty, Thrall Bus Co. the Hartford Courant and The Meriden Record Journal but his primary career was with the US Postal Service as a letter carrier in Southington for 35 years. He was a devoted fan and supporter of all of his children and grandsons athletic activities.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, Edward J. Sweeney and wife Renae of Ponte Verda, FL, Gary Sweeney and wife Alice of Cumming, GA, Darlene Gugliotti and husband James of Plantsville, a sister Steffie Winarski of Southington, four grandsons Stephen and Michael Sweeney and Mitchell and Garrett Gugliotti, along with several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother Joseph Sweeney Sr., sisters Jocie Pauletti, Annie Troyan, Mary Sabol, Verna Gorosko, and Sophie Verazin.
The Funeral will be held on Friday April 29, 2011 at 9:15 from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington to Immaculate Conception Church, 130 Summer St., Plantsville for a 10 am Mass. Burial with Military Honor will be at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, S. End Rd., Plantsville.
