
She was born Nov. 4, 1926 in Waterbury daughter of the late Alphonse and Catherine (Corrado) Sirica.
Mrs. Costa was the founder and owner of the Monarch Nursery School in Wolcott since 1964. She was a graduate of Waterbury Catholic High School and received a BA at Edgewood Park in Briarcliff Manor, NY. In 2000, she was given the Sandy Marino distinguished service award and 1999 she was given the Roseanne Barratt Community Service Award. She was on the Republican Town Committee in 1990 and 1971,a minority leader on the Board of Education in Wolcott from 1963-1973, a member the building committee for Tyrrell School, a past president of the Tyrrell School PTA, a member of the Wolcott School Food Service Committee, and the Committee to sponsor symposium on sex education through the PTA. She was a President of the Coronas Club and chairman of the Coronas Club scholarship fund. She was a chairman of the 1966 fund drive for the Waterbury Assoc. for Retarded children in the Wolcott Area, a member of the Waterbury pre-primary program, a member and past president of the Wolcott Jr. Women?s Club, a current and longtime member of the Board of Directors of the Wolcott Chamber of Commerce, former member of the St. Pius Ladies Guild, a CCD teacher, a Justice of the Peace, Beautification of Peterson Park Committee, and organized many Blood Drives. A member of the Evergreen Book Club and the Watchful Eye Project. While Public Affairs Chairwoman of the Farmingbury Women's Club she organized the Suitcases for Kids Program. She was a current member of and Chairman of Public Affairs for the Farmingbury Women?s Club where she organized the Suitcases for Kids Program.
Mrs. Costa was a two time president of the Wolcott Women?s Club, the tea committee of the club and was named the club?s first honorary member. She was instrumental in getting the Wolcott Women?s Club to be a part of the State Federation of Women?s Clubs and was a member of their Executive Board. She was a artist who enjoyed working with pastels and oil painting.
Besides her devoted husband of 54 years, she is survived by two daughters, Andrea Homewood and Judith Purcell both of Wolcott, a brother Andrew Sirica of Waterbury, a sister Genevieve Banno of Massapequa Park, NY, and three grandchildren. A sister Barbara Culotta is deceased.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m Saturday February 11, 2006 at St. Maria Goretti Church 1300 Woodtick Rd. in Wolcott. Burial is private. There are no calling hours. The DellaVecchia Funeral Home in Wolcott is in charge of the arrangements.
