Ernst William Freeman

Ernst William Freeman, 88, of Wallingford and formerly of Southington, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at Masonicare Health Center in Wallingford. He was the beloved husband of Virginia (McBride) Freeman.

Born July 11, 1937 in Meriden, Ernst was the son of the late Elmer Wallace and Lillian Caroline (Breitzke) Freeman.

Ernst dedicated many years of service throughout his career, retiring from The Timex Corporation in 1992 after 30 years of employment. He also retired from New Britain Transportation where he drove a bus part-time after an impressive 60 years of service. A devoted member of Zion Lutheran Church in Southington, Ernst was also a member of Meridian Lodge No. 77 and proudly served as a DeMolay Master Counselor in 1958.

Ernst had a lifelong passion for trains, especially HO scale model trains, and was an avid fan of the New York Rangers. He will be remembered for his dedication to family, his strong work ethic, and the many friendships he cultivated throughout his life.

In addition to his wife, Virginia, Ernst is survived by his two children, Carolyn Napp and her husband, David, of Waterbury, and William Freeman and his wife, Elise, of Summerville, South Carolina; his two grandsons, William Freeman Jr. and Michael Freeman. He was predeceased by his cousin, Barbara Gannon and her husband, Richard, who was like a sister to him.

A memorial service will be held on August 15, 2026 at 10:00 AM at Zion Lutheran Church, 531 Woodruff St., Southington. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
