Florence Palmer

Florence (Higgins) Palmer, 82, of Cape Neddick, ME and Southington, CT passed away peacefully Nov. 25, 2006 at the Hospital of Central CT New Britain Campus. She was the wife of the late Frederick P. Palmer.

She was born April 15, 1924 in E. Greenbush, NY, daughter of the late George and Florence (Caracci) Higgins. Mrs. Palmer was the former owner and operator of Nyren Brothers Inc. in Southington and Plantsville.

She is survived by her 2 loving children, Ellen J. Bresnahan of Southington, CT and David R. Philio (Amy) of Gouldsboro, ME, her grandchildren, Kelly Mafale (Craig) Heather Roy (Nick) Erin Bresnahan all of CT, Rebecca Philio, Meghan Scott (Aaron) Rachel Philio all of ME, her step grandchildren, Patricia Moore of NY and Valerie Wright of FL, her great grandchildren Ashley and Sarah Mafale of CT and 2 step great grandchildren, Kyle and Faith Wright of FL. She also leaves many loving cousins and friends in CT, NY, MA, MI and ME.

She will be remembered as a gourmet cook and a wonderful gardener. She truly loved her "State of ME" house on the ocean, and the Adirondack Mountains, where she spent her younger years and was an excellent canoeist and fisherwoman. Besides her parents she is predeceased by her former husband, Robert T. Philio.

The funeral services will be private There are no calling hours. Burial will be at Union Cemetery in Clifton Park, NY. Donations may be made in her memory to the First Parish Church, 180 York St. York, ME 03909 or the Southington Care Center, 45 Meriden Ave. Southington, CT 06489. DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. is in charge of arrangements.
