Frederick P. Calkins

Born in Willsboro, NY, on January 4, 1938, he was the son of the late Gilbert and Doris (Perkett) Calkins.

Fred was employed by GE Modular of Bristol retiring from there in 2005 after 25 years. He had been past president of the Bell City Rifle Club of Southington. Being an avid sportsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and boating along with golfing and all types of car racing. Fred was also a member of Central Baptist Church and had served four years in the Marine Corps.

Besides his wife he is survived by his children, daughters Colleen Ofiara and her husband Michael of Barkhamsted, Jessica Calkins of Kittery, ME, and Deborah (Butler) Leclerc of Wallingford, sons Fred Calkins and his wife Cheryl of Weatogue,CT, Robert Mahner and his wife Janet of Southington and Jeffrey Mahner and his wife Christine of Terryville. Fred is also survived by two brothers John Calkins and his wife Eileen of Litchfield and Gilbert and his wife Katherine of Palm Springs, CA, a sister Patricia Robinson and her husband Alex of Nashua, NH, 13 grandchildren Kelly and Frederick Calkins, Sean and Alexandra Ofiara, Mitchell, Nichole, Andrew, Brian, Aaron, and Samantha Mahner along with Darren Zimmerman and Jonathan Leclerc and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son Paul Calkins, brothers Ronald and Philip (Skip) Calkins and sisters Carolyn, Barbara, Jayne and Joann.

A Memorial Service will be held at 9AM on Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at Central Baptist Church 1541 West St., Southington. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
