Geneva Racine (89), lovingly known to all as Memere, was born on February 18, 1936, in Edmunston, New Brunswick, Canada, to Pascal and Leanne (Dionne) Emond and relocated to Connecticut in 1964 where she later built her life and raised her family.
Geneva was predeceased by her beloved husband, Eddy Racine, with whom she shared 67 years of marriage. Together, they built a life centered on love, devotion, and family. She was a proud and dedicated mother to four children: Linda Mezzanotte (Thomas), Guy Racine (Becky), Gary Racine (Ann Marie), and Brenda Racine (George). She is also remembered by Terri and Nancy, and Elmer who remained part of her extended family.
Geneva is survived by her brother Rene Emond (Rose) and her sisters Corrinne Francoeur (Jean-Guy) and Emilia Zbed (Albert). She leaves behind six grandchildren: Guy Jr. Racine (Linda), Eric Racine (Samantha), Stephanie Floody (Justin), Ryan Racine (Morgan), Melanie Givens (Tanner), and Belinda Garrido (Jason), as well as four great-grandchildren who brought her endless joy: Gia and Riley Racine, and Kinsley and Brielle Floody. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers Guy, Emile, and Yvon Emond; her sisters Sister Lina Emond and Pauline Beaulieu; and her cherished granddaughter, Danielle Mezzanotte.
To everyone who knew her, she was simply Memere. She had a way of making people feel welcome and loved. She found great joy in crocheting and knitting and was rarely without a project in her hands, always making something special for someone she loved. She enjoyed spending time at the Franco-American Club, playing cards and bingo with family and friends, and sharing laughter around the table.
Memere was most at home in the kitchen, where she lovingly prepared her French chicken stew, ploye, and her famous meat spread, that became family traditions and will forever be tied to her memory. She treasured time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, especially doing puzzles together and milkshakes.
Geneva’s life was one of quiet strength, warmth, and devotion to family. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held close in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.
The DellaVecchia Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements. Services for Geneva are private.
