Irma M. Drisdelle

Mrs. Irma M. Drisdelle, 81, of Southington and formerly of Farmington, passed away peacefully at home on May 28, 2015. Daughter of the late Prémélite and Elise (Cormier) Robichaud, she was born on January 28th 1934 in St. Paul, New Brunswick, Canada. One of eleven children, she grew up on the family farm before meeting her future husband, Lionel Drisdelle. Lionel moved to the U.S. and Irma soon followed. They were married on July 24, 1954 in Gardner, MA.

They resided in Newington, then New Britain, before finally settling the family in Farmington. Irma and Lionel worked together in running the family business, Drisdelle Construction Co., Inc., for many years. Irma’s passions were her grandchildren, nature, and long walks.

Irma was predeceased by her husband Lionel who unexpectedly passed on October 15, 1976. Through her strength, optimism, and courage, she lovingly continued to raise her four children. An amazingly devoted mother and an inspiration to all who knew her, she will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Irma leaves behind her beloved children Debra Drisdelle of Bristol, Yvette Sandberg and husband Douglas of Marietta, GA, John Drisdelle and wife Sharon, of Burlington, and Linda Toohey of Bristol, grandchildren, Heather Toohey, Daniel Toohey, Elise Sandberg, Renée Sandberg, Rachel Drisdelle and Brian Drisdelle; her siblings Robert Robichaud and wife Lola of Marlborough, MA, and Aline Belliveau of New Brunswick, Canada.

Irma was predeceased by her brothers Alfred, Ovila, Alyre, Hervé, Gerry and Emery Robichaud, and sisters Mary Gautreau and Exelda Poirier.

Family and friends may honor and remember Irma’s life at Della Vecchia Funeral Home, 211 North Main Street, Southington. Calling hours are on Monday, June 1 from 5-8 pm and again prior to leaving for church on Tuesday. The funeral will be held on Tuesday 9 am processing to Saint Patrick's Church, 110 Main Street, Farmington, where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, 160 Garden St, Farmington.
