

Irma was born in March 1934 on Staten Island.
She earned her Laboratory Sciences degree from Western Connecticut State University and completed training as a medical technologist at Middlesex Hospital. Divorced in 1961 and left with three young children, Irma worked for over 36 years at Meriden Wallingford (MidState) Hospital, the majority of that time as the Hematology Supervisor, devoted to 52 hour work weeks. Revered for her kindness and generosity to family and friends, following retirement in 1999 Irma served her wider community as a volunteer for the Red Cross, an ESL program for immigrants, the Bushnell Theater, her homeowners association & Community Emergency Response Team.
She is predeceased by her devoted and brilliant parents, Theresa and Hubert Kolip, her brother Walter, and her longtime companion Allen Rosenberg.
Irma leaves her daughter Cheryl and husband David Sherwood, son Karl and wife Heather Meisterling, and son Wally Meisterling; grandchildren Brenda, Gabriel, Kirsten, Nils and Lily; great-grandchildren Remy, Alyssa & Nicholas; & loving, devoted partner Roger Modeen.
A celebration of her extraordinary life is planned for early summer. Donations in her honor can be directed to the Heart and Stroke Research Fund or your favored charity.
