Prior to his retirement he was a souse chef for the Grist Mill Restaurant in Avon. Jim was an active member of St. Dominic Parish. He was an avid woodworker, donating all of his work to friends and family. Jim was a gardener, grew his own vegetables and made his own jelly. He was generous with the bounty of the harvest. He was a loving father and grandfather who will be dearly missed.
James is survived by his daughter Dorothy Morley of Hamden, a sister Patricia Capito of Warren, OH, and a grandson James A. Helbling V, along with several nieces.
He was predeceased by his son James A. Helbling IV.
The funeral will be held on Tuesday at 9:15 am from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. to St. Dominic Church, 1050 Flanders Rd; for a Mass at 10 am. Burial will be at St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Monday from 4-8 pm.
