

He was born in Newfane, VT on Oct 23, 1931, the son of the late Henry and Olive (Mundell) Putnam. He was a gentleman farmer, builder and real estate developer in Southington for 48 years and built many fine homes in Southington and surrounding towns. He was a member of the First Congregational Church. A member and past president of the Rotary Club of Southington, a former member of the Town of Southington Building Committee and many town committees. He was a classic car and tractor enthusiast and also enjoyed snowmobiling at their vacation home in NH with family and friends. He was a member of the Classic Car Club of America, Packard Club of America, Buick Car Club and other antique car and tractor clubs.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, James L. Putnam Jr. and wife Charlene of Southington, Deborah Putnam-Conner and husband James A. Conner of Morristown, TN and Sherry Davenport and husband Charles of Southington, 5 grandchildren Scott Putnam and wife Josie, Alec Corapinski, Gregory Putnam and wife Helen, Nicole Davenport and Jessica Davenport, 4 great grandchildren, Scott Putnam Jr., Michael, Johnathan and Elizabeth Putnam, he also leaves a sister Jane Nicholas and husband Leslie of New Hampshire, a brother-in-law Henry Hellus Jr. and wife Linda of VT and many dear family and friends. He was predeceased by sister Sylvia Scranton.
The Putnam family sincerely thank the around the clock care from all the doctors, nurses, ICU, Dialysis and Diabetic Center at New Britain General Hospital and support of family and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church, 37 Main St. Southington. Calling hours will be on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St.
