Janet was born January 2, 1934, along with her twin sister Suzanne, to Mary Quinn and James F. McNamara in New Haven, and was raised there until marrying her beloved husband Frank in 1957. They moved to Southington and lived there for the next 65 years.
Janet graduated from Albertus Magnus College in 1955 with a degree in education and obtained her Master's Degree from Central CT State University a few years later. She had a long teaching career as an elementary school teacher in Plainville, Southington, and Plantsville, retiring in the late 90's.
She was a member of various civic clubs in Southington throughout the years, and more recently, was a volunteer at the Southington Public Library and Books for Babies.
She and Frank were members of Mary Our Queen Catholic Church since 1964. Her faith and her friends and family helped her through various life challenges, and she remained devout until the end.
Janet very much enjoyed traveling with Frank and neighborhood friends, and was able to visit countries all over Europe, as well as taking several cruises together. She and Frank spent many winters in Florida with the same friends after retirement. She also enjoyed antiquing with her friend Sandy and collected many 'treasures' over the years. Janet loved to celebrate her Irish heritage, and never missed an opportunity to bring home something with shamrocks on it.
Janet spent the last 3 years of her life at The Village at Kensington Place Assisted Living Facility in Meriden, being well cared for by the excellent staff. She was known there for her smile and her friendly wave to everyone.
Janet was predeceased by her husband Frank and her brother James. She leaves her devoted children, Maura Galante of Hamden, and Paul Galante of Middletown, as well as her sister Suzanne and husband Thomas Cook of Woodbridge, and several nieces and nephews.
