JoAnn Frances (Centoni) Calcinari, 78, of Southington, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 18, 2026, at UCONN John Dempsey Hospital in Farmington. She was the beloved wife of Robert Calcinari, her best friend and partner in life. The two would have celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary on May 30th – a milestone that speaks to a love and partnership that was the cornerstone of everything JoAnn held dear.
Born on June 10, 1947, in Tacoma, Washington, JoAnn was the daughter of the late James Centoni and Mary (Tinella) Daniels and her husband Gerald.
JoAnn dedicated 35 years of service to the Barnes Group in Bristol, joining the company in 1977 in the Spec Department where she rose to Supervisor shortly after she joined. In 1999, she transitioned to the Shared Services Department as a Shared Services Associate, a role she held with pride and dedication until her retirement in 2012. Throughout her career, she was an engaged and active presence within the company, including as a participant in the women's group, where she built lasting friendships and made her warm spirit known to all who worked alongside her.
A woman of deep and abiding faith, JoAnn was a devoted parishioner of St. Aloysius Church in Plantsville and formerly St. Thomas Church in Southington. Her faith was not merely practiced on Sundays – it was lived every day. She served as a Eucharistic Minister, bringing the sacrament each week to Alzheimer's patients at LiveWell, offering them comfort, dignity, and grace. She was also a proud member of the Ladies Guild at St. Luke's Parish, where her generous spirit found yet another home.
JoAnn had the biggest heart imaginable, with so much love to give, she touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know her. That love extended well beyond her family and into her community. She volunteered at the Southington Community Closet, where she devoted her time to ironing clothes for those in need – a quiet, humble act of service that spoke volumes about who she was. She was also an active member of the YMCA, where she swam weekly, and she rarely missed a chance to walk with friends or with Bob, her constant companion.
Her zest for life was infectious. JoAnn loved to golf and was an enthusiastic member of leagues at Wetwoods and Tunxis, where her competitive spirit and joyful nature made her a beloved presence on the course. She was an avid basketball fan, a devoted lover of country music, and for over 40 years she made her cherished annual trip to Aruba – a tradition that brought her sunshine, relaxation, and memories she treasured deeply.
In addition to her devoted husband Robert, JoAnn leaves her loving son, Christopher Calcinari and his wife Kimberly of Burlington; her cherished grandchildren, CJ Calcinari and his fiancée Hannah Carbone of Burlington, and Kaitlyn Cunningham and her husband Billy of New York, NY. She is also survived by her brothers, Richard Centoni and his wife Gail, Jerry Daniels and his wife Maggie, and Michael Daniels, all of Bristol; her sisters, Debbie Porrini of Wolcott, Lisa Basile and her husband Scott of Plainville, and Suzanne Kitts and her husband Ron of Arizona; along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
She was predeceased by her brother-in-law, John Porrini, and by her beloved niece and goddaughter, Stacey Clingan. JoAnn now rests in their company, reunited with those she loved and missed, finally at peace. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 22, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Dominic Church, 1050 Flanders Road, Southington. Burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in JoAnn's memory to LiveWell, 1261 South Main Street, Plantsville, CT 06479, or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Way, Memphis, TN 38105.
