

She was born on Feb. 15, 1943 in Annapolis, MD the daughter of the late Pasquale and Grace (Diguilio) Tarantino. Joanne received her Nursing Degree from Waterbury Hospital, her BS from CCSU, her Masters of Education from SCSU, her Masters of Nursing from UCONN and her Post Graduate of Nursing in Pediatrics Primary Care at UMASS. She began her career at Waterbury Hospital, went on to teach the LPN Program, continued at CCMC as a Clinical Nurse Specialist, and finished her career as a Pediatrics? Nurse Practitioner in Private Practice. Joanne received many distinguished honors and awards throughout her career and is a member of Sigma Theta Tau, a National Honor Society for Nursing, and contributed research that has been published in National journals of medicine. She was also the former president of the National Pediatrics Nursing Association. She traveled throughout the country speaking on pediatric health. Joanne was an avid gardener and she loved the beach and to swim.
In addition to her husband of 50 years of marriage this year, she leaves a son Andrew Ascione of CA, two daughters Donna and husband Rick Koczera , and Christine and husband Raymond Gorneault all of Southington, 8 grandchildren, Alexandra, Athena, Matthew, Joseph, Drew, Caitlin, Madison and Amanda, a sister Barbara and husband Edgar Belanger of Southington and several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday at St. Thomas Church, 99 Bristol St. at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. is assisting with arrangements.
