

John was born in Waterbury on July 16, 1918, son of the late Harry and Ernestine (Weyermann) Hammell. He retired from the US Postal Service where he worked for over 35 years and was a part time employee of the former Frigon Funeral Home. He served in the US Army during WWII and was a member of the VFW post 1979 in Wolcott where he held several offices. He was an avid golfer at the East Mountain Golf Course in Waterbury. He also loved woodworking and traveling with his wife Pearl. John was a collector of coins, stamps, lighthouses and golf accessories.
He is survived by a daughter MaryAnn Mocci and her husband Robert of Plantsville, three grandchildren whom he adored Jenna, Brian and Amy Mocci all of Plantsville. Besides his wife Pearl, John was predeceased by his sister Mary ?Mae? Zenauskas.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Wednesday at St. Anthony Church 4 Union City Rd. in Prospect.
Burial with military honors will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Calling hour will be Wednesday morning from 9 to 10 AM at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home 211 N. Main St. Southington.
John was a generous person who donated to many charities. A donation to the charity of your choice in his memory would be appropriate and appreciated by his family.
