Joseph J. Dorio

Southington - Joseph J. Dorio, 62, passed away on April 23, 2011 surrounded by his loving family at his home. He was the beloved husband of Debra Johnson Dorio and they were married for 41 years. She was his best friend and dedicated caregiver.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his son Scott Dorio and his wife Nicole Palker-Dorio of Rocky Hill, a daughter Kristen Dorio- Bernier and her husband Michael of Southington , his brother Samuel Dorio and his wife Joan of Southington, his aunt Mary, along with several nieces and nephews, cousins, in-laws and his best buddy, his dog, ? Sammi?. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Bryson and Abby Bernier, to whom he was known as ?Pa.?

Joe was born on August 22, 1948 in New Britain, and was the son of the late Samuel and Anna (Albano) Dorio. He graduated from New Britain H.S. and the Hartford Institute of Accounting.

Joe was employed by JCPenney for 20 years before fulfilling a lifelong dream of owning his own men?s store which he opened as Dorio?s Men Shop in Wethersfield. He later managed the Jos. A. Bank in W. Hartford. Joe also served as a New Britain Police Auxiliary Officer for many years.

He enjoyed model railroading, fishing with Bryson and watching movies and having long conversations with Abby. Joe was a computer aficionado and frequently served as ?tech support? for his family and friends. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Dr. Patel and Dr. Brown and the nursing staff at Bradley Memorial Hospital.

Services will be held on Wednesday April 27 at 10 AM at the DellaVecchia Funeral home 211 N. Main St., Southington. Visitation will be from 9AM until the time of the service. Burial will be in South End Cemetery
