Born in Southington on November 15, 1936, Joyce was the daughter of the late Anthony and Veronica (Domalewski) Lorenzo. She was the devoted wife of Philip J. Pomposi, her beloved husband of 69 years, who survives her.
Joyce was a faithful member of St. Thomas Church and later St. Dominic Church. Beyond her roles within her family and faith community, Joyce was a dynamic presence in the Southington business community. She began her career as the lead sales agent for Spring Lake Village during initial development and went on to co-found Diamond Realty with her husband. She later established Southington Travel, a respected fixture of the downtown community, for many years. Her passion for travel took her across the globe, including as part of one of the first American tour groups to visit communist China in the 1980s. She enjoyed trips to Italy, ocean cruises and an occasional trip to the casino. Joyce was second-to-none when it came to solving daily crosswords and loved completing jigsaw puzzles. She was an avid gardener and an especially good cook – she will be remembered by her family for serving up great dishes with a side of love.
Joyce lived a full and vibrant life, defined by love, dedication, and adventure. She was a nurturing mother, a proud grandmother and great-grandmother, and a steadfast friend. Her family was the heart of her world, and she will be deeply missed by her children - Philip R. Pomposi and his wife Patricia, Thomas Pomposi, Stephen A. Pomposi and his wife Sharon, and Dawn Pomposi and her husband Jorge Diaz. She also leaves behind her brother, Anthony Lorenzo, nine adoring grandchildren – Justin, Samantha, Jillian, Rachel, Catherine, Maureen, Philip, Stephen and Keith; five great-grandchildren - Emily, Austin, Elaine, Benjamin and Piper; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Joyce was predeceased by her brothers, Angelo and Richard Lorenzo, sisters, Mary Salvatore and Dorothy Graham, and daughter-in-law Catherine (Rina) Pomposi.
Her funeral will be held on Saturday, November 15th at 10:00 AM from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 AM at St. Dominic Church, 1050 Flanders Rd., Southington. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be Friday from 4:00-7 :00PM.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Hortence (Joy) Johnson and the Hospice nurses for the kindness, compassion, and care shown to Joyce during her illness.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Joyce’s memory may be made to the Dementia Society of America or the Susan G. Komen Organization.
Though she may be gone from our sight, she will never be gone from our hearts.
