Larry Dean Miclette Sr., 80, of Southington, loving husband of 36 years to Cynthia (Popolizio) Miclette, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2026 at The Hospital of Central Connecticut, New Britain General, following a brief illness, surrounded by his loved ones.
Born on November 23, 1945, in St. Albans, Vermont, he was the son of the late Gerard
Miclette Sr. (Slim Coxx) and Florence (Collins) Miclette. Larry grew up in Coventry, Ct and graduated from Coventry High School Class of 64. Larry then served in the Air Force from 1964-1968. Larry dedicated more than 20 years of his career as a foreman for Amtrak, where he was respected for his hard work, leadership, and commitment but music was his passion. Larry was a devoted member of Slim Coxx and the Cowboy Caravan, a country music group in which he played the pedal steel guitar. For more than 30 years, the group performed every Sunday at Lake Compounce, and Larry took great pride in never missing a show. His dedication to the music, his fellow musicians, and the audiences they entertained reflected his unwavering commitment and love for performing and gifted him with lifelong friends and memories. Larry was awarded the CCMA ACHIEVEMENT AWARD for Outstanding Contribution and support to the CCMA in 1989 and was Inducted into the Connecticut Country Music Hall of Fame in 1998. Larry was known as one of the greatest pedal steel guitar players in Ct. and has been sought out his whole life. He left behind his legacy in many recorded songs throughout the years.
He found his greatest joys in life and simple pleasures being with his wife Cindy and his family and friends. Larry was an avid fisherman and rarely went anywhere without a fishing pole in his vehicle, always ready to stop and cast a line whenever the moment felt right. He also loved taking long drives with no particular destination, enjoying the adventure of getting lost, and spending peaceful afternoons feeding the ducks at Hubbard Park in Meriden.
Above all, Larry will be remembered for his kind heart, big smile, his love of music, the outdoors, and the happiness he found in sharing time with those he loved. His family and friends will forever treasure the memories he created and the lasting impact he made on their lives and the music lives on in their hearts.
In addition to his beloved wife, Cynthia, Larry is survived by his children, Trent Miclette, Larry Miclette Jr., Justin Miclette, Jolene Andrews and her husband, Paul; Joshua Miclette; Jason Miclette; and his stepson, Robert Brayall. He is also survived by his brothers, Lee Miclette, David Miclette and his wife, Elaine, and Robert Miclette and his wife, Georgia. Larry also leaves behind 13 cherished grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and many extended family members and friends who will miss him and his smile dearly.
In addition to his parents, Larry was predeceased by his brothers, Paul Miclette and Gerard Miclette Jr., and by his daughter-in-law, Nicole Miclette.
All services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. A Celebration of Life will take place and will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Larry's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
