Leopold Joseph Gagnon, 66, lifelong resident of Southington, left our lives too soon on December 18, 2020. Leo was born in Fort Kent, ME, the youngest child of the late Reginald and Bertha (Pinette) Gagnon. Leo was the beloved husband of Diane (Pelletier) Gagnon for 38 years.
Leo was dedicated to taking care of his family and friends. Showing his love by helping others, he was always the first to lend a hand. Leo graduated from Southington High School in 1972. Beginning in his early teens and throughout his life, he had a strong work ethic. He was proud to be able to provide for himself and his family. At the age of 16, he purchased his own sports car which he meticulously cared for.
Leo’s love and fascination of anything on four wheels grew to 16 wheels in adulthood. He owned and operated his own trucking company, worked many years for the Town of Southington Parks and Highway Departments, and recently retired as a truck driver with A. Duie Pyle.
In his retirement, spending time with his family brought him his greatest happiness. Leo enjoyed traveling to Virginia, Maine, and Florida to visit family. He never missed going with Diane for breakfast on Sunday mornings to various restaurants around Connecticut. He also enjoyed fishing, camping, and tending his vegetable garden. He was a passionate UConn Women’s Basketball fan.
He will be dearly missed by his loving wife Diane, daughter Kimberly Pollock, her husband Brian and his grandson Zachary. He is also survived by his brothers Reginald Gagnon, and Nelson Gagnon; sisters Pauline Gagne, Madeline Sperlazza, Jacqueline Damboise, and Caroline Cyr; several nieces and nephews, and a large extended family.
Donations in Leo’s memory can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. http://giftfunds.stjude.org/Leopold_Gagnon
