Born on July 27, 1962, in Meriden, Maria was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Frances (Giuliano) Groobert.
She earned a degree in political science and went on to serve with distinction at the United States Mission to the United Nations in New York City. During her tenure, she worked in the Press Office under former Ambassador Jeanne Kirkpatrick, with her time there coinciding with the U.S. invasion of Grenada—an era that shaped her lifelong engagement with global affairs and public service.
Maria’s intelligence, grace, and strength left a lasting impression on all who knew her. Her greatest joy came from her family, and she dedicated her life to nurturing those she loved.
In addition to her husband John, Maria is survived by her cherished children, Ashley King and Andrew Koskovich, both of Bristol; her adored grandchildren, Grace Riera, Gianna Labonte, Isabella Landry-Koskovich, Owen Koskovich, and Jacob Diaz; and her sister, Marcia Ortiz of Marlborough.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 5th at 10 a.m. at St. Matthew’s Church, 120 Church Ave, Bristol. Burials will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, September 4th from 4–7 p.m. at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Maria’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
