Mario J. Ferreri

Mario was born on January 28,1935 in Siderno, Province of Reggio Calabria, Italy, the son of the late Giuseppe and Rosina (Costanzo) Ferreri. He came to the United States in 1938 with his mother and sister (Mary) joining his father who had previously setup his family with a home and life that would follow in Meriden, CT. Mario enjoyed a life centered around his family, friends, faith, and community.

He honorably served his country for five years—three in the National Guard and two in the U.S. Army and completed a 40-year career as a Tool Maker with New Departure Hyatt (General Motors), retiring in 1993. Mario was blessed with mechanical ability and a practical nature which benefited his family and others through the maintenance of cars, lawn equipment and anything mechanically related. He was a lifelong New York Yankee fan with an appreciation for barbequing quality steaks and gardening, especially growing tomatoes and hot peppers, critical ingredients for the tomato salads that we all enjoyed. He kept abreast of current events and in the right company would relish the opportunity to discuss politics (in a respectful way) preferably over a good cigar.

Above all, Mario cherished his family. He is survived by his two sons Joseph and his wife, Rita (Formica) Ferreri of Southington and Michael and his wife, Cynthia (Morris) Ferreri of Southington; six grandchildren, Juliana, Mario, Bianca, Kristina, Mario and Isabella.

He leaves a sister: Mary (Ferreri) Deleo of Toronto, Canada. Mario also leaves five sisters-in-law: Lina (Crupi) Zavaglia of Larchmont, NY, Lina (Commisso) Crupi of Harrison, NY, Rosetta (Oppedisano) Crupi of Mamaroneck, NY, Ersilia (Crupi) Franco of Stignano, Italy; and Rosetta (Crupi) Stalteri of Siderno, Italy and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his two brothers: Frank & Albert Ferreri, and his sister Helen (Ferreri) Salerno along with their spouses: Immaculata (Figliomeni) Ferreri wife of his brother Frank, Joseph Salerno husband of his sister Helen, Elaine (Giddix) Ferreri wife of his brother Albert, James Deleo husband of his sister Mary.

Additionally, Mario was predeceased by the following brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law from his wife’s (Celestina) family including: Joseph Crupi husband of Rosetta (Oppedisano) Crupi, Attilio Crupi husband of Lina (Commisso) Crupi, Antonio Franco husband of Ersilia (Crupi), Franco Stalteri husband of Rosetta (Crupi), Paolo and Esterina (Crupi) Salubro and Salvatore Zavaglia husband of Lina (Crupi).

Mario will be remembered for his devotion to his family and friends, his pride in his Italian heritage, and the respect and integrity with which he conducted his life. He believed in doing the right thing, even when it was difficult or inconvenient, and he treated others with kindness, dignity and respect. He was proud to have served his country, but above all proud of the life he built for those he loved and especially the time spent on the Rhode Island shoreline, family visits, and celebrations in New York and Canada. His strength of character, unwavering principles, and generous spirit left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. He will be deeply missed by his family and all who have had the privilege of knowing him.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, September 4, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Della Vecchia Funeral Home on 211 North Main Street, Southington, CT.

His funeral will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at 8:15 AM from the Della Vecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington, to St. Dominic Church, 1050 Flanders Rd., Southington, for a Mass of Christian burial at 9:00 AM. Burial with military honors will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, 250 Gypsy Lane Meriden, CT.
