We have suffered a great loss and we are feeling a great deal of pain with your passing.  You have touched so many lives during your short time here on earth.  You were not only a brother-in-law to me, but you were my dearest and closest friend.  We have spent many good times together and I have many memories of you that I will cherish forever.  The most recent memories being your two weeks here in Florida with Kaily and Josh.  You have been a true friend and "brother" to Joe, an awesome uncle to your nieces and nephews, loving godfather, caring son-in-law, and outstanding brother-in-law to the remainder of our family.  You were a true friend to many and will be missed by all who knew you and who were so blessed to have had you in their lives.  You will never be forgotten and will remain in our hearts forever. I want to send my deepest sympathy to all of Matt's family and especially his two children. Matt and I graduated from the Academy together and then both of us were assigned to Troop F in Westbrook.  I then transferred to Troop I in Bethany and shortly after so did Matt.  Matt was truly a great guy, very kind and always a gentleman. I am truly saddened by his passing.

When I started working at Troop F, Matt welcomed me and made me feel at home. We became friends instantly and shared so many laughs and tears together.I will truly miss the long talks,that grin and laughing so hard that we couldn't talk. You were always beaming from ear to ear when you talked about Kailey & Josh. Your Family was everything to you!

I met Matt in 1987 on a drill weekend in New Haven. I served with in the Army MP Corps in peace and war. I lived, slept (tried sometimes)ate, bathed, wept, and shared some of my most private inner feelings about life, our country the Army etc with Matt and my other brothers and sisters. There is a bond between soldiers that can never be broken and only God knows the rest. He was a good man, could crack a joke in any situation and was not afraid to tell you how he felt. He was about service to others and all though I had not seen him since our Desert Storm reunion, he was always in the back of my mind. I will miss him and will pray for his family. Good bye my friend, I hope yoy are riding that Hog in Heaven. I have no doubt you are. UNO!

Matthew, you served your country valiantly, you are a true hero.  You came home and continued serving and protecting this great state. To Matt Richardson's family:  I had the priviledge of being Matt's first Commanding Officer when he graduated from the Academy and arrived at Troop F. He was a thoughtful young man with great values and a strong commitment to helping others.  I beamed with pride as I followed his career and I was very proud of his accomplishment of becoming a Sergeant and I shared that with him.
