

Born on September, 25 1989 in New Britain and raised in Southington, Michael was the beloved son of Teri Egidio and Thomas LaPoint, stepson of Lisa LaPoint and the late Alphonse Cusano. He was a loving brother to Heather LaPoint, James Augustyn, and Melissa Ulmann (Augustyn). He was also a cherished grandson to Patricia Egidio, and was predeceased by his grandparents Richard Egidio, Darrell J. LaPoint Sr. and Sandra LaPoint. He also leaves behind many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
A 2007 graduate of Southington High School, Michael continued his education at the University of New Haven, where he studied Music and Sound Recording. His love of music and technology remained a constant throughout his life, leading him to further explore the Bitcoin network and earn certificates through Saylor Academy’s Bitcoin studies program.
Michael dedicated much of his professional life to transportation and service to others. Holding a Class B CDL license for more than 13 years, he worked as a school bus operator for All-Star Transportation in Prospect from 2013 to 2016, and later for the Southington branch of The New Britain Transportation from 2021 to 2026. From 2018 until its closure during the pandemic in 2020, he proudly served as transportation manager and driver for the Active Day senior center of Middlebury. Among the many highlights of his driving career was his time driving the P.L.A.C.E. Arts on the Go Trolley with his long-time friends Debra and Dennis Chavoya, a role he cherished since 2017.
In his younger years, Michael enjoyed playing baseball, flag football, and soccer, and studied chess and Tae Kwon Do. He had an adventurous spirit and a deep love for the outdoors, finding joy in hiking, fishing, and cross-country skiing. An avid skateboarder, he formed lifelong friendships through the Buck 90 skate crew, bonds that remained strong throughout his life.
Michael also had a passion for art, photography, and music, and enjoyed playing his Fender Stratocaster. His Catholic faith remained an important part of his life, and his kindness, and gentle nature touched everyone who knew him.
Michael’s legacy is one of love, friendship, music, and adventure. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his family, friends, and all whose lives were made brighter by knowing him.
Michael’s family would like to express sincere gratitude to the dedicated oncology team at Midstate Medical and Bradley Memorial Hospital, particularly Dr. Alsamarai and her team as well as Dr. Iris H. Wei at Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York and the Franciscan Home Care and Hospice Care and Caren Chalfant for her exceptional compassion and excellent care provided during Michael’s illness and a special thank you to all his friends at Beacon Pharmacy.
His funeral will be held on Tuesday, October 20th at 10:15 AM from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington to St. Dominic Church, 1050 Flanders Rd., Southington for a Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery.
