Molly Laverne Nemec

Born in August 24, 1946 in Johnson City, Texas, she was the daughter of the late Garland and Virginia (Bickford) Dover. Molly was raised in Glen Jean, West Virginia, where her grandmother lovingly gave her the nickname “Cookie” at birth—a name that remained with her throughout her life.

Cookie and her family moved to Connecticut in 1958. She attended H.C. Wilcox Technical High School in Meriden, where she was one of the first women to attend. It was during her junior year that she met Joe, and the two quickly became high school sweethearts. They were married on June 8, 1968, beginning a devoted marriage that lasted 58 years.

Cookie went on to earn an associate degree in medical secretarial studies and worked for the former Bradley Memorial Hospital in Southington until her retirement.

A woman of many talents and interests, Cookie was an avid quilter and a wonderful cook, especially known for her delicious Southern dishes. She enjoyed spending time outdoors with Joe and was a member of the Southington Festival Choral during the 1990s. She was also among a group of families who helped establish the Southington Girls Softball League, contributing to a community tradition that continues to this day.

Cookie’s greatest joy was her family. In addition to her husband, Joseph, she leaves behind her beloved daughter, Rachel McDaniel of Florida; her cherished granddaughters, Hannah and Chloe, who were the loves of her life and of whom she was immensely proud; and her brother, Garland Dover of Florida. She also leaves lifelong friends Dave Kania and Terry Badgley.

She was predeceased by her brother, Gary Dover; her sister, Brenda Marcellino; and dear friends Lynn Kania and Roger Badgley.

Cookie will be remembered for her warmth, devotion to her family, generous spirit, love of cooking and quilting, and the many memories she created with the people she loved. Her family and friends will carry her memory in their hearts.

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 24, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington. A graveside service will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Southington.
