Nelda was born in Fabbrico province of Reggio Emilia, Italy the daughter of the late Pasquale and Paolina (Comis) Magnanini.
Nelda and Victor had two sons, the late Ralph Belfi of West Haven, and survived by Daniel Belfi of Southington with whom she made her home. She is also survived by her grandson who she was very proud of, Daniel C Belfi of West Haven. Nelda had 4 brothers, the late Renzo Magnanini of Bologna Italy, Galba and Frank Magnanini both of Wallkill NY who also predeceased her. She is survived by her little brother Michael Magnanini of Cheshire and many nieces and nephews.
Prior to her retirement she was employed by Marlin-Rockwell TRW in Plainville. She was an excellent skier and they taught their sons Daniel and Ralph to ski at ages 4yrs. & 3yrs old respectively. She loved to cook, learning from an early age side by side from her mother. Canning tomatoes, making fresh pasta by hand and gardening were highlights of her day. Coming to Nelda (Nonna’s house) lead to a fresh bowl of homemade chicken soup with homemade noodles which she thought could cure any illness and was good for you. She also graduated from the Cortina D’Ampezzo Culinary Institute. Nelda was proud of her Italian heritage and also became a US Citizen in 1953.
Faith and family togetherness were important to Nelda & Victor. Winter meant day trip skiing, summer boat trips to Connecticut River, and the fall season called for yard work and then Drive–In movies as a family.
My father always told us “I’m a success. I married a beautiful woman and a great mother to you kids too” Thank you Dad, and thank you for bringing one of God’s most beautiful creations into all of our lives. Mamma Belfi’s Faith, Love, Kindness and Compassion will live on forever for all those who knew her. Love lasts forever.
Thank you for being a great Mother, The Best. Love, your son Daniel
