Nicholas DePaola, 86, of the Plantsville section of Southington, passed away on Dec. 1, 2022 at the HOCC at New Britain with his family by his side. He was the husband for 61 years of Eleanor (Bessette) DePaola.
He was born on May 17, 1936, in Waterbury the son of the late Nicholas and Josephine (Marra) DePaola. Nick graduated from Crosby High School in Waterbury, he received his BA from Fairfield University and his masters and 7th year for Central CT State University. He was a founding member and trustee of St. Aloysius Church. He was a former member of the Town Council, the Police Commission and the Board of Education for the Town of Southington. He served on the Board of Directors of the Southington Catholic School. Nick was awarded the UNICO Gold Medal in 2002 and received the St. Joseph Medal from the Archdiocese of Hartford. In 1970 he received the Distinguished Service Award from the Southington Jaycees.
In addition to his wife Eleanor he leaves his son Robert DePaola and partner Michael D’Occhio of Wethersfield, a brother-in-law Jay Bessette, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister-in-law Dorothy Bessette.
The family would like to thank the staff at the HOCC New Britain for the outstanding care given to Nicholas and good friend and neighbor Denise Roy, who has been a tremendous help through the years.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, Dec.12th at 11 am at St. Aloysius Church, 254 Burritt St. Plantsville. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. is assisting with arrangements.
