Oscar Swanson

Oscar (Fred) Swanson Jr., 79, passed away on Friday October 18, 2013 at Countryside Manor of Bristol. Oscar was born in Hartford on January 1, 1934, and was the son of the late Oscar F. and Marie (Petrillo) Swanson Sr. Fred began his broadcasting career announcing Southington Little League games as a child .He began his professional career at WHAY as the ?Night Watchman? ending his 50 years of broadcasting with WJMJ in 2004. Through his career he had the opportunity to meet many celebrities and travel with the USO touring overseas. Fred was an avid New York Yankee Fan. He also enjoyed old movies, music and loved what he called his ?radio gig?. Fred is survived by his sons James Swanson and his wife Dale of Burlington and Ryan Swanson of FL and five grandchildren ,Michael, Alisha, David, Shyann and Presley.

Fred?s family would like to thank the staff at Countryside Manor of Bristol, for taking ?great care? of Fred while he was there.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday October 22, 9:45 am from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home 211 N. Main St. Southington to St. Thomas Church 99 Bristol St. for a mass at 10:30am.
