

Richard was the youngest of 10 children born to George and Matilda (Fischer) Harwood. He was born and lived in Southington his whole life.
Richard served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954, and was stationed for a time in Italy.He returned to Cuno Engineering in Meriden, and continued working there for over 30 years. He retired as plant manager.
Dad and Ma were married on July 27, 1957 at the First Lutheran Church on Bristol St. They and “the boys” traveled extensively, starting with a travel trailer and working up to a motorcoach. They visited places from Canada to Florida, Ohio and Wisconsin. Dad and Ma attended many Winnebago rallies at the factory in Iowa. Both have served in many positions with Winnebago camping chapters, and board positions at El-Rey Park, St. Petersburg, FL. Dad enjoyed camping, fishing, NASCAR, golfing and working with his hands. Dad and Ma wintered in St.Petersburg, FL for many years.
Besides his wife, Janet, Richard leaves his sons, Thomas (Elizabeth) of Plantsville; Kenneth and Keith of Southington; and Todd (Tammy) of Meriden, his grandchildren ; Brian (Maureen) of Tucson, AZ, Kevin (Holly) of Plantsville; and Brianna of Meriden, his great-grandchildren, Sawyer, Evelyn and Colette of Tucson,and Emmett of Plantsville. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents Richard is predeceased by his siblings; Mae Pezzuti, Dorothy Malgeri, Jenny McKenney, Belle Harwood, William Harwood, Marion Emond, Robert Harwood, Millie Sankowski and George Harwood Jr.
The Family wishes to thank the staff of Hartford Health Care at Home-Hospice Care.
The family will receive guests on Tuesday from 4-7 pm at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. Southington.
