

Richard Salerno, 72, passed away peacefully with his family by his side, after a long courageous battle with cancer on October 7, 2014. Born in New Britain, CT on September 11, 1942, he was the son of Anthony and Mary (DeCarlo) Salerno of Southington. He is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Kathleen Salerno of Southington. Children: Brian Salerno of Denver, CO; Tammy and Bill Clapper of Hallstead, PA; Sheila and Anthony Valerio of Southington; Elizabeth Grady of Southington; Carol DePastino of Bristol; and Kathleen and Michael Reilly of Glastonbury. Brothers: Nicholas and Claire Salerno of San Antonio, TX; Joseph and Joanne Salerno of Wolcott; and Frank and Rosemary Salerno of Southington. He is also survived by his eleven grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, whom he adored. In addition to his parents, he also predeceased by his grandson, Kyle Valerio. From Sept. 1961 to Sept. 1965 he proudly served in the United States Air Force. After discharge, he returned to Southington where he currently resided. Rich was a man known by many, and loved by all. Prior to his retirement in 2006, he worked for Suzio Concrete in Meriden, CT for 30 years. Being an avid golfer was his pastime of choice; however, he was also active in the Sons of Italy and the American Legion Post 72. The funeral will be held on Monday, October 13, 2014, at 9:15 am from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington to St. Aloysius Church 254 Burritt St. , for a mass at 10 am. Burial will be at St. Thomas Cemetery with military honors. Calling hours will be Sunday from 3-7 p.m. at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to The George Bray Cancer Center of Central Connecticut.
