

Richard R. Thibodeau, 84, of Southington, CT, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2025, at the Hospital of Central Connecticut – New Britain General, surrounded by the love and presence of his family.
Born on March 28, 1941, in Orono, Maine, Richard was the son of the late Gilmore and Angie (Clement) Thibodeau. A dedicated and hardworking man, Richard proudly served the Town of Southington for over 20 years with the Highway Department. Earlier in life, he worked as an arborist, where his love for nature and the outdoors was nurtured and remained with him throughout his life.
Richard was a man of many passions. He found joy in fishing, golfing, gardening, and taking trips to the casino. Known for his deep love of the outdoors, he never missed a chance to be in nature. He also possessed a remarkable singing voice, one that could light up a room and draw a crowd wherever he went. His voice was more than a talent—it was a gift he shared generously with all who knew him.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife, Elaine (Sakelarakis) Thibodeau, and his children: Christopher Gianacopolos and his wife Sharon, Janet Rogers and her life partner John, and Louis Gianacopolos Sr. and his wife Kristen. He was a proud grandfather to Samantha and Gary Rogers Jr., Louis Gianacopolos Jr. and his wife Sierra, Kalli Gianacopolos, Mackenzie Ballinger and her husband Shawn and Isaac Gianacopolos. His legacy lives on through his cherished great-grandchildren, Erin Rogers and Ally Accarpio.
He also leaves behind his dear sisters, Patty Wolfe and her husband Jimmy, and Carol Goodale and her husband Cliff. Richard was predeceased by his brother, Robert Thibodeau.
Richard will be remembered for his warmth, his humor, his songs, and the love he shared so freely with family and friends. His life was one of quiet dedication, joyful passions, and deep connections. He will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A visitation for Richard will be held on Tuesday October 21, 2025 from 2-6PM at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home 211 N. Main St. Southington, CT 06489. A funeral service will begin that evening at 5PM at the funeral home. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
