

Robert D. Groover, 90, of Southington, beloved husband of Edna (Castle) Groover, passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2023 at Apple Rehab of Plainville, following a lengthy illness. Robert was born in Canton, PA on September 14, 1932 and was the son of the late Lester and Muriel (Williams) Groover. Robert and Edna were married in 1952 and soon after, he entered the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Upon his honorable discharge in 1956, he and Edna began their family, raising four children. A true man of God, Robert was a faithful member of the Plainville United Methodist Church. In his leisure time, he enjoyed reading the Bible, going to church, cheering on his UConn sports teams, the Boston Red Sox and the New York Giants. He also loved to play golf, bowl, camping, riding his bike and enjoying a tasty meal. But most of all, he loved to be with his family. Besides his wife of 71 years, Robert is survived by his four children; Loraine Rose of GA, Valerie Ostrander and her husband John of Wolcott, Mitchell Groover and his wife Kathy of Terryville, and Christopher Groover and his husband Daniel Turcotte of Tolland. He was also a proud grandpa to his five grandchildren; Tom, Andrea, Melissa, Andrew and Amy and also six great-grandchildren; Chandler, Shane, Reese, Mason, Benjamin and Eva. He was predeceased by a son in law, Paul Rose. All services for Robert will be held privately and there will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Robert’s memory may be made to the Plainville United Methodist Church, 56 Red Stone Hill Rd., Plainville, CT 06062. The DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. Southington, CT 06489 has been entrusted with Robert’s arrangements.
