
Born July 23, 1921 in New Britain, the son of the late Frank and Bertha (Kleber) Rund. Robert attended New Britain schools before enlisting in the US Army in 1940. He engaged in combat duty in the South Pacific Islands and the invasion of Leyte, Phillipine Islands. After an honorable discharge in 1945 as a Master Sergeant, he was employed by the Southern New England Telephone Co. for over 35 years, retiring in 1982 as a Network Manager in the Meriden District.
In 1956 he moved to Southington and has resided there since.
He was a member of the Masons, Elks, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, Hartford Telephone Foreman?s Club, Telephone Pioneers of America and the Old Harbor Yacht Club in Clinton. He was an ardent sailor for over 45 years and spent his summers on his boat at the Old Harbor Marina.
He is survived by two daughters, Noreen Kirschner and her husband Norman of Burlington, Audrey Persico and her husband Michael of Alexandria, VA; five grandchildren; a sister Margaret "Peggy" Buffing of Burlington, 2 nieces and 2 nephews. He was predeceased by a sister Lillian Esposito.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 26, 2007 at 11 a.m. at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. Southington. Burial with military honors will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Friday morning form 10 - 11 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to the American Red Cross, 209 Farmington Ave., Farmington, CT 06032.
