Born October 22, 1932 in Fairfield, ME, he was the son of the late Frank and Reta (Palmer) LaForge.
Sidney was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving with the U.S. Army and retired from General Electric in Plantsville.
Above all, he was a devoted husband to his soulmate ( if you look up “soulmates” in the dictionary you will find a notation: see Sidney and Lucy). They were inseparable for 65 wonderful years of marriage. He was extremely dedicated to his family. I remember when I was very young, and a new family was starting out, he would work two full shifts a day at the machine shop!
He worked hard to support his family, but he liked to play hard. He was an avid fisherman in his younger days, and loved fishing with his buddies, and us boys. There were lot’s of fishing memories of deep sea fishing with his buddy Gilbert VanLinter, cat fishing on moon lit nights on ponds with his buddy Ed, and I will never forget the epic trout fishing camping trip with his cousin Clarence Palmer in Canada!
He was the greatest dad ever, and a super family man who also loved camping with the family, and created so many great memories with so many camping trips in the old mail truck, or the old school bus that he rebuilt, and meticulously converted into campers.
He was our ultimate “Mr. Fix-it”, who we all relied on for any problem. He could repair virtually ANYTHING. He was the carpenter, the mason, the plumber, the mechanic, the electrician, and the toy repairman all rolled into one. Can’t count the number of times that he miraculously brought back to life broken toys, bikes, dolls, etc., all to our amazed eyes. I remember as a small boy when he took apart a mechanical toy tiger that wouldn’t walk and move any longer, he said, “I’ll have to do a little operation on him”, and to my amazement, he fixed it perfectly and I remember thinking “My dad must be the smartest guy in the planet!” And to us he was.
In addition to his wife he leaves his children, David LaForge of Bristol, Laurie Boudreau and husband Christopher of Southington, Linda LaForge of Bristol and Dennis LaForge of Wallingford; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He also leaves one brothers, Clyde LaForge and wife Lenora of Southington, a sister Cecilia Pisko of Southington and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Gary LaForge.
Services will be private. The DellaVecchia Funeral Home, Southington has been entrusted with the arrangements. For online condolences please visit, www.dellavecchiafh.com
