Steven Augustine Fernandes

Steven Augustine Fernandes, 54, of Southington passed away on Monday September 14, 2015 at Branford Hospice with his family at his side. He was the beloved husband of Deborah (Degnan) Fernandes for over 25 years.

Steve was born in Waterbury on December 9, 1960 son of “Augie” and “Bolly” (Marinelli) Fernandes. He attended SHS, Western New England College, and Trenton State in New Jersey. He won the Division III National Wrestling Championship which earned him induction into the Southington Hall of Fame. His lifelong career was Fire Protection, making buildings safe from fire for us all. His passion was wrestling, facilitating athletic ability while bringing others to the next level.

Besides his wife and parents, he is survived by siblings Joseph Fernandes and wife Patricia, Dina DeGumbia and husband David all of Southington, and Edward Fernandes and wife Eileen of Chicago, IL, along with several nieces and nephews, whom he was like a “Dad” to. He also leaves his sisters-in-law Darlene, Marlene, AnneMarie, Roxanne, and brother-in-law Scott and also his" two children in fur coats” Matilda and Malone.

The Funeral will be held at 10 am on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at Calvary Life Church,174 East Johnson Ave, Cheshire. Family and friends will meet directly at church. Calling hours will be on Friday from 4-8 pm at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
