
He was born March 31, 1949 in New Britain, son of Birtise L. Johnson of Southington and the late John R. Martin. He had retired in February from the U.S. Postal Services in Hartford after 23 years. Mr. Martin was a 2 term decorated veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the U.S. Army. During his first term he served with the 1st Infantry Div., and during the second term he served with the 25th Infantry Div. He was awarded 2 purple hearts and several bronze stars. He was a member of the DAV of Bristol, the American Legion and the VFW both of Plainville and the Elks Club of Bristol.
Besides his wife and mother he is survived by brothers, James R. Martin and his wife Betsy of Las Vegas, NV, Edward Martin and his wife Kathy of Rowley, MA, and Philip L. Martin and Janice Markavich of Southington, a sister Patricia A. Joyce and her husband Edward of E. Hampton, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Donald R. Martin .
The Funeral will be held Wednesday 10 a.m. at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. Southington. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Southington.
